Original, beautiful watercolor art are all inspired by a life dedicated to prayer by a Diocesan hermit sister in the rolling woodlands of Wisconsin. Living in silence and solitude, surrounded by the beauties of nature, allows the hermit sister to develop her gifts, creative gifts that can be shared with others.
“Art is essentially beauty that draws us into the truth of our own being, and whenever we have truth and beauty we have God.”

Nature-inspired watercolor art, simple and beautiful – each color combining with another to offer, as musical notes can do, a harmony, can bring an "epiphany" of the inner beauty of things, and a reflection of the inner peace we all seek.
Your appreciation and support of Hermitage Arts by purchasing these original watercolor paintings and cards for you and your friends, offers a share in her prayer and beautifies the world around you.

I find inspiration in the Letter to Artists by St. John Paul II which begins thus:
“To all who are passionately dedicated
to the search for new “epiphanies” of beauty so that through their creative work as artists they may offer these
as gifts to the world.
“God saw all that he had made,
and it was very good” (Gn 1:31)
I hope that my art will bring you
inspiration and joy.

Eremitic life, as in the Carmelite way, has its roots in the early centuries of Church history. Its lifestyle is one in which the Christian faithful dedicate their lives to solitude and separation from the world in order to more fully develop a life of contemplation and interior silence. Love of God and intercession for the salvation of all people is a spiritual work of Mercy. Primitive Rules with their ancient disciplines of prayer, fasting, simple lifestyle, and manual labor accompany this style of consecrated life in the Church.
"A monk is one who, separated from all, is united with all."
Evagrous Pontico ( Treatise on Prayer 124)
